3 Villages you Must Visit in Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands

Dornie Village, Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands

It's no secret that I love my home in Lochalsh in the Scottish Highlands. I love being able to explore places throughout the Highlands without too much hassle. I love being near stunning mountains as well a beautiful sea lochs.

Lochalsh is often a part of the Scottish Highlands that people drive through on their way to visit the Isle of Skye or the NC500, however I really believe you should take the time in your next trip to stop in some of these incredible wee villages throughout Lochalsh. You might discover something truly amazing here!

Plockton

Ah Plockton! If you're loooking for a quaint seaside village in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, look no further than the "Jewel of the Highlands", Plockton. This cute little village is such a great place to wander about, soaking in the sun (hopefully) in this wee village. If I go to Plockton with my family when they are visiting from Glasgow, we'll often just get wander around the streets, admiring the houses along the front and getting an ice cream to enjoy whilst we watch the world go by. I love being by the sea, and Plockton is the perfect spot in Lochalsh to enjoy a relaxing visit to the seaside.

Dornie

Home to the famous Eilean Donan Castle, Dornie is a beautiful village that I love exploring. I shared a blog post all about some of my favourite places to explore in and around the Dornie area last year, so have a wee read at that if you are looking for more on what to visit in Dornie.

As well as having some of the coolest sights in the Scottish Highlands, I also simply love wandering down the front at Dornie. You do have to be aware of nearby traffic, but I love walking alongside Loch Long and seeing all the cottages and houses along the front. It's a good few miles to the little hamlet of Bundalloch at the end, so you can enjoy a good few hours walking along the road at Dornie and seeing this little Highland villagein slower way.

Glenelg

Generally, whenever we have friends or family coming up to visit us from from the Central Belt or England, we will take them over Mam Ratagan to see Glenelg. We love this place and its quirkiness. We love that its twinned with Mars. We love that there's always sheep or cows by the side of the road. We love that they have the last operating turntable ferry in the world. It's just such a fun and interesting little village to pay a visit to.

Glenelg is also home to my favourite, most cosy, classic warm Inn in the world - the Glenelg Inn. We've loved the food at the Inn for years now and love taking people to this cosy pub. We love that's always the finest Scottish options for a hearty dinner, such a fish and chips or a venison burger, and that the chefs try to use locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. We visited at the end of April and enjoyed some hake with potatoes, spring greens and a langoustine bisque. It's not normally the kind of meal I'd choose to pick, but I'm so glad I did. It is probably one of the nicest meals I've had in a long time, so I was very happy with my selection.
