A Cosy Lunch at the Midge Bite Cafe

When the cold autumn weather starts to come in, what do you like to do with your time?

I often find these dark days of autumn pretty hard, especially when its raining and miserable outside. At this time of year, I feel like I have to have things to look forward so I have been trying to come up with a list of places locally that I want to explore and try over the next few months.

One of those places I was really looking forward to trying was the Midge Bite Cafe in Achnasheen. I have passed this little spot a number of times when I've driven to to Dingwall and the North Coast, but we've never really thought to stop here. But I am so glad we finally did stop at last weekend.

Inside, the Midge Bite is a small but cosy little cafe. It is the perfect place to eat some delicious food and get out of the rain for a while.

One of the real highlights of the Midge Bite is their all day breakfast menu on a Sunday. Because they are open fewer hours on a Sunday, they have one menu selling all day breakfast. I'm not usually the kind of gal who would go for some bacon, sausages and beans if it features on the menu, but I just knew this is what I wanted to enjoy on a dreich Highland afternoon.

We decided we wanted a wee treat after our delicious lunch, and we were so happy to spot a delicious S'mores Hot Chocolate on their seasonal menu. With toasted marshmallow syrup, chocolate sauce, crumbled biscuits and a big toasted marshmallow on top.

If you are planning a trip along the NC500 route and you are passing Achnasheen, I would highly recommend stopping in for a coffee or some food. It was such a wonderful little spot and really helped me feel all the warm and cosy feelings.
