A Farmhouse Brunch at Househill Cafe, Nairn

The Bar at Househill Cafe, Nairn

When I'm looking to go our for breakfast, brunch or lunch, sometimes I'm looking for somewhere cool, somewhere that conjures up cool meals that I wouldn't normally be able to make at home. But sometimes, I'm looking for a cosy spot, with delicious fresh food and delicious homemade cakes. A cosy spot to coorie up in during the winter months.

If you are looking for the latter, can I recommend Househill Farm near Nairn?

I first visited Househill Farm with my friend who lives in Nairn 3 years ago, a few weeks before my wedding when Covid rules and restrictions were seriously making me anxious as I approached my wedding day. I needed a few days away, so headed to my friends house for a bit of a break and a girly few days in one of my favourite spots in the Scottish Highlands.

Since then, we've visited Househill a few times and loved it every time. A few weeks ago, we decided to head there for a bit of brunch. Although we had visited a few times in the past, most of those visits were for lunch or afternoon coffee.

I'm a savoury brunch kind of gal, so I decided to have their 4 piece cooked breakfast. Although I do consider myself a bit of a foodie, one thing I really struggle with is portion sizes of full breakfasts. This is why I really loved this brunch option that Househill had. You can pick 4 items off their regular or vegetarian breakfast, which is the perfect amount for me. It was the perfect size of cooked breakfast for me, allowing for variety and the right size brunch portion for me to justify getting a cake at the end.

Finlay enjoyed biscoff 4 ways French Toast, the ultimate sweet caramel brunch option. And our friend enjoyed some smashed avocado with bacon. We all had were really happy with our picks and it was just the right fuel for a lovely wander around the nearby village of Cawdor after our brunch.

If you're looking a cosy lunch spot just outside Nairn, Househill Cafe is such a fantastic spot. It's also got a really big car park (something not many spots in the Scottish Highlands can boast about.) There's also a wee farmshop as you enter the cafe, selling some really interesting and delicious looking things to try at home.
