A Late Summer Adventure to Ullapool

Ullapool Harbour, Wester Ross, Scottish Highlands

I've said it before a few times, but September is my favourite month in the Scottish Highlands. There's just something about this month that's so special to me. I love it!

A few weeks ago, we had our first Saturday off together in months and the weather was warm and sunny. It was the most of all scenarios! So we jumped in the car and headed north on an adventure somewhere we haven't been to before: Ullapool.

Despite living in Lochalsh and spending the last few years prioritising exploring my home in the Scottish Highlands, one region I haven't actually spent much time exploring is Wester Ross. Ullapool is the biggest village in this region and there's a couple of places I really wanted to tick off my bucket place in this village.

It took us two hours to drive up to Ullapool, but the drive was so special. Wester Ross is such a rugged and gorgeous region of the Scottish Highlands, and it's especially beautiful in the dappled September sunshine.

Upon arrival, we decided to head out and find somewhere for some lunch and there was only one option for us. We've wanted to visit the Seafood Shack for years and this spot really didn't disappoint.

We got a portion of breaded haddock tacos. We love a seafood or fish taco, and these really didn't disappoint. There was also a charity event on at the Seafood Shack the day we visited, so we loved the lively atmosphere and live Scottish music.

After a spot of lunch, we had a wander around some of the independent shops around the village. We stopped by Ullapool Bookshop and I managed to find a postcard as well a book on one of my favourite Scottish islands.

We wanted to grab a hot drink before heading back home. I've been following Cult Cafe on Instagram for a while and knew they would be able to deliver delicious hot drinks that warm us up after the late summer afternoon started to cool off a bit. I ordered a delicious chai and we shared a ginger crunch bar.

Overall, we enjoyed a really wonderful day in Ullapool. It's definietly somewhere I hope we can return to and would make a great base to explore others parts of Wester Ross. There were a couple of places in and around Ullapool that we didn't manage to explore on the day that I'm sure we will have to return to on our next visit.
