For me, one of the high points during our last lockdown is being able to get outside and just go for walks close to home. I didn't really know too much about some places in our local area, so having the restrictions (and the time) to explore these places has been a real joy over the past few months!
So last weekend, my husband, my brother-in-law and I went out for a walk in Glen Lichd. I didn't know much about this glen before heading out, but it was such a wonderful walk that I would really recommend! To walk in a glen with mountains towering on either side of you is a really amazing thing, especially on a day when the sun is shining (something we don't get all the time in the Highlands!)
One of the highlights of this walk: it's really flat! You simply follow a clear and flat path through the glen. When you live in the Highlands, you do become used to most walks including some kind of hill. But, as someone who didn't grow up amongst the mountains, I really enjoy being able to go out on a walk for much longer because it is flatter. This walk also allows you to look at the Five Sisters of Kintail on one side and Beinn Fladda on the other side, as you enjoy them from ground level. It's also a walk that you can enjoy at your own pace. Just go as far into the glen as you would like, and then turn around for a pleasant walk back. It is really a win-win situation for me!
Some little tips if you are thinking going for a walk in Glen Lichd. We have now attempted to go for a walk here three times, the first two times in January and once again in April. It is definitely a walk that needs to be done in a good pair of walking shoes. Even when we went in April, a lot of the path was still a bit boggy.
Another tip. As you go through the gate to head into the glen, there is a sign that reads keep your dog on the lead. Although you might not initially see why, there are actually loads of sheep roaming in this glen. So I would definitely suggest following this rule if you are bringing you four-legged friend with you on this walk.
If you want to find out more about this walk, I would highly recommend checking out the Walk Highland's website to find out more information.
Where have you enjoyed spending time recently?
