A Weekend in Oban

Cal Mac ferry in Oban Bay

When I first moved to the Scottish Highlands three years ago, I was so excited to get out and explore some new places that I've never been to before. One of the places I wanted to tick off my list was Oban. Although technically not in the Highland council region, Oban is lovely rural town connecting mainland Scotland to some of the most beautiful Scottish Islands.

We stayed from Friday to Sunday at the end of July. Oban was probably pretty busy but actually we were still able to do everything we wanted with only a small wait. We ended up staying in a great studio apartment I found on Airbnb on George Street, overlooking the harbour. The highlight of this flat was definitely the view. As a girl who grew up on the West Coast, I loved being able to watch all the Cal Mac ferries leaving the port throughout the day to take people to islands I'd never visited before.

One of my favourite things about exploring a new place is wandering around and discovering new shops and places to eat in a place. We spent most of Saturday morning doing exactly that. It was so nice to see the cool independent shops in Oban and support some local businesses.

I was so surprised by was the amount of amazing food we had during our weekend in Oban. I'm going to share a post all about the food we ate whilst were in Oban, but we were blown away by everything we ate whilst we were there. There was some truly incredible local produce that we loved as well as old favourites we had and absolutely loved. I can highly recommend Oban if you are a foodie looking for some great food.

Another special part of our weekend in Oban was being able to share it with our dog Bru. Now that he's a bit older, it's sometimes hard to take him everywhere we go. But only having to travel a few hours from home and being able to bring all his stuff with us in the car meant it was really easy to bring him along for our holiday, which just made it all the more special.

We've already started planning what we might do the next time we visit Oban. We just had such a great time and managed to do so much whilst also feeling like there are many things we still want to do next time we visit.
