Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
Born that happy morning;
Jesus, to thee be glory given!
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord
I'm a bit of a purest when it comes to singing Christmas carols and have some very strong feelings about when you should sing certain verses of some of the carols. Normally I'd say you shouldn't be singing the final verse of O Come all Ye Faithful before Christmas morning, but seeing as I wont be writing a blogpost on Christmas Day, I thought I'd share my reflections on the final verse of this carol today.
The final two lines of the final verse of this carol speaks about the Word of the Father appearing in the flesh to the waiting world. It reminded me of this beautiful verse from the first chapter of John's Gospel, which we often read at this time of year.
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."
John 1:14
This Christmas, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on what a miraculous thing happened when Jesus came to earth. John's Gospel makes it clear that this baby born on that happy morning is actually God Himself, coming to earth. God knew what we needed and He knew we needed Him to come to us.
For Christians, the Christmas story is so wonderful because it tells us about God coming to earth to be with us.
