Turkish Eggs at The Hungry Gull, Staffin, Isle of Skye

For me, I think the perfect meal out and about when exploring somewhere new is brunch. I enjoy having a decent sized meal in the middle of the day, giving me more time to head out and about to explore new parts of the Scottish Highlands. (P.S. over the years, I've shared a bunch of my favourite spots in the Scottish Highlands to have brunch. If you want to check them out, you can find them here.)

A few weeks ago, during a wee day off adventure to the Trotternish Peninsula, we finally made the visit to The Hungry Gull in Staffin. The day we arrived at The Hungry Gull turned out to be their first day open for the 2025 summer season, so we were super excited to try their brunch and see what all the hype about this place was.

For brunch, I enjoyed an incredible plate of Turkish Eggs. If you haven't tried Turkish Eggs yet, can I please ask that you do. If you haven't heard of them before, it's basically poached eggs in a garlicky yoghurt, normally served with some sort of chilli sauce and sourdough bread to dip in. It's creamy and spicy and the perfect brunch option in my opinion.

Finger and his fish finger sandwich, The Hungry Gull, Staffin, Isle of Skye

For my husband Finlay's choice, he decided to have a fish finger sandwich. This isn't the choice I was expecting him to make, but he loved it. The fish was flakey and fresh and the batter was crisp and light, making this the perfect combination for a fish finger sandwich. We both had a fantastic meal at The Hungry Gull, which filled us right up for a day of exploring the Trotternish Peninsula.

It was clear from the amount of locals in The Hungry Gull just how popular this spot is amongst tourists and locals alike. It's a cosy wee spot, but with beautiful big windows overlooking the incredible landscape in Staffin. The Hungry Gull forms part of the Staffin Community Centre building, and it's clear to see that The Hungry Gull makes up a key cornestone of the community in the north end of Skye. If you're looking for somewhere for lunch on your way to visit some of Skye's most famous spots (such as the Old Man of Storr) I'd highly recommend taking a trip to Staffin to visit The Hungry Gull-you won't be disappointed!
