Come and Behold Him

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant

O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem

Come and behold Him, born the King of Angels

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

Christ the Lord!

For the past two December's, I've shared Advent reflections on some of my favourite Christmas carols. For me, singing carols at Christmas time is one of my favourite parts of this season. I just love being able to sing these beautiful songs each Christmas and reflect on the meanings of each of these songs every Christmas. This year, I'll be reflecting on one of my favourite carols, O Come, All Ye Faithful, over the next four weeks, starting with a reflection on the first verse.

"Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the King, behold, wise men of the east came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw His star when it rose and we have come to worship Him."

Matthew 2:1-2

The wise men came to worship. They traveled far so that they could personally be the ones who to worship the new King. They wanted to see Him with their own eyes. To come and worship Him personally, rather than simply doing it from afar.

These verses really encouraged and challenged me in my own Christian life. How often do I take time out of my life to simply worship King Jesus, in the way these wise men did? They would have spent weeks, travelling in order to find Him. How often do I make excuses about my busy life in order to get out of spending time with God?

This Advent season, I'm hoping to spend more time in a similar way these wise men did, using my time to behold Him and worship the baby King.
