Dinner at Rocpool, Inverness

Blood Orange Mocktail, Rocpool, Inverness

One thing about Scotland that I love is the abundance of incredible, fresh seafood that we can get right on our doorstep. I've shared a couple of my favourite seafood spots around the Scottish Highlands before (including this one about my favourite three spots to enjoy seafood in the Scottish Highlands and this one about the Seafood Shack in Ullapool, one of my foodie highlights of 2024) but somewhere I haven't had a lot of seafood experiences yet is Inverness.

In January, we had the pleasure of staying overnight in Inverness and I managed to spend time exploring lots of places I hadn't been to before. We decided to head out for a nice meal and managed to get a table at a restuarant we hadn't visited before. Overlooking the banks of the River Ness, Rocpool is a restuarant I've always wanted to try after being recommended to visit it by a couple of friends over the years.

Monkfish and Prawn Stir Fry, Rocpool, Inverness

I decided not to have a starter, but our group enjoyed some of the best starters they've had. The staff were incredibly accomodating of any requests we had. One member of our group had a gluten intolerance and the staff were very clear in the dishes that could be adapted to allow for his dietary requirement.

I enjoyed the corainder and chilli Shetland monkfish stir fry, with king prawns. To say this one of the most delicious monkfish and prawn dishes I've ever had would be an understatement. This meal was beautifully presented, with delicate fish and fresh flavours of the minted yoghurt and pistachios and limes. I love any fish dish with these kind of flavours combined to make a delicate and fresh dish and this meal was exceptional in that.

Lemon Meringue Pie, Rocpool, Invernes

For dessert, I enjoyed a lemon meringue pie. If I had to choose my favourite kinds of flavours, it would definitely have to fruit and citrus flavours. Finlay had another fruity dessert in a white chocolate and coconut cheesecake with burnt pineapple and butterscotch. This is definetely not something he would normally have, but he says it was beautifully balanced with the fruitiness from the pineapple and the fun creme brulee like caramel on top. It was a real winner for him.

Rocpool is definetely a pricer meal out in Inverness, but if you are looking for somewhere to enjoy incredible Scottish flavours for a really special meal out, Rocpool is the place for you. I'm not sure when we will next have an occasion to visit again but we are so excited to head through again to have another incredible meal at Rocpool.
