Fire Dining Dinner at The Dunvegan, Isle of Skye

Dining Room at the Dunvegan, Isle of Skye

As you'll know full well by now, I really love the food and drink scene on the Isle of Skye. One of my favourite discoveries since moving to the Scottish Highlands has been how incredible and diverse the various eateries, cafes and restaurants are now on the Isle of Skye.

I had just found out I got a new job, so we decided to celebrate by enjoying dinner at a spot on the Isle of Skye that we've wanted to return to for ages, The Dunvegan. I first visited this spot over two years ago when I first started sharing my adventures on this blog and we've wanted to return for dinner ever since.

The Dunvegan is a family owned hotel and restaurant in northwest Skye. We had their three course Fire Dining menu.

I started with their delicious mussels in a creamy garlic sauce. You'll know from my Oban blogposts last year how much I love mussels. I had to be a bit careful of the sauce, as I can get pretty sick if I eat incredibly rich foods, but it was so tasty I couldn't resist dipping my bread in it a few times! Finlay enjoyed their crispy oysters-his first time trying an oyster-and he really loved it. He still isn't sure he would enjoy uncooked oysters, but he loved the cooked version.

Finlay and I both had their Shorthorn rump steak, with chimicurri and burnt orange. I don't actually eat an awful lot of beef at home, so it always feels like such a special treat to be able to have a delicious steak out. Having the chimicurri and burnt orange with the steak was an unusual but absolutely delicious combination with the steak.

For dessert, Finlay enjoyed a basque cheesecake with strawberry gel, whilst I had some sticky toffee pudding.

After the meal, the family that owned the Dunvegan kindly invited us into the kitchen to be able to see the fire they cook everything over and meet the chefs. We had such a lovely meal and experience trying the fire dining menu. We love being able to try something a bit different and being able to experience such a cool, interesting restaurant so close to home on the Isle of Skye.

If you are looking for somewhere special to eat on Skye, I would highly recommend The Dunvegen.
