Dinner at the Glenelg Inn

When I ask people who visit the Scottish Highlands what they would most love to visit during their time in the Scottish Highlands, a lot of people mention visiting a traditional Highland pub. Although there are plenty of pubs all over the Scottish Highlands, not all of them are equal.

My favourite pub in the Scottish Highlands is definitely the Glenelg Inn. I might be a bit biased because this is one of the more local pubs to where I live, but I truly think this is one of the best spots to get traditional Scottish food in the Highlands.

We recently visited the Glenelg Inn for dinner for my brother-in-laws birthday. It was a Monday night at the start of September, but the place was packed with both tourists and locals making the most of the evening. For me, this really just showed how popular this spot is and why so many people locally visit the Glenelg Inn.

I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal at the Glenelg Inn and this evening was no exception. I decided to have the confit duck leg, with braised reg cabbage, fondant potatoes and gravy. This is the kind of food I'd normally pick but everything just went so well together and it was such a delicious meal. It was a perfect decadent dinner after our trip to the Small Isles earlier on in the day.

Some Tips

  • The menu at the Glenelg Inn changes every day, which means you get the best seasonal and local ingredients each day. I've included a picture above of the menu the night we visited.

  • Booking is essential for dinner at the Glenelg Inn. You can find booking information, including their phone number on the website here

  • On the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month, there's live music at the Inn, so make sure you make it along for those nights to hear some traditional music from fabulous local musicians
