Dinner at the Lochside Bar and Grill, Loch Lochy

The Scottish Highlands is known for many things, including breathtaking scenery and unique experiences you cannot find anywhere else in the world. One thing I love about the Scottish Highlands is the wonderful and varied food and drink offerings available all over.

A few weeks ago, as a special treat for Finlay's birthday, we headed down to Loch Lochy near Spean Bridge to have a meal at the Lochside Bar and Grill in the Whispering Pine Lodge. We pass by this hotel every time we drive south to Fort William and onto Glasgow, but we've never actually headed inside to see what is going on.

As with all of the Black Sheep Hotel's restaurants, there is a great selection of Indian food as well as other choices on the menu. We decided to opt for some curries, with Finlay choosing the Hyderabadi Lamb Shank and myself choosing the Butter Chicken.

Both our curries were rich and delicious. Living in Lochalsh, we don't always have many options for enjoying an Indian meal out or as a takeaway (although Finlay has become very good at making homemade curries for us to enjoy). We also had a portion of basmati rice between the two of us and a butter garlic naan to share. I would definitely recommend getting a garlic naan to go alongside your curry. It was homemade and a really delicious way to mop up all my curry sauce.

We also had some dessert to finish off our time at the Lochside Bar. Finlay had a sticky toffee pudding, whilst I chose to continue with my Indian meal and have the Kulfi. This Indian ice cream dessert consists of a condensed milk ice cream surrounded my a mix of various nuts in condensed milk. It was quite a rich dessert to finish the meal with, but so tasty and absolutely stunning to look at.

We had a lovely meal at the Lochside Bar and Grill at the Whispering Pine Lodge. It was definitely on the more expensive side as far as local places go, with the food coming in at £63 and our drinks an extra £25. That said the food was great, the service and setting was fantastic and it felt like a real treat.
