Dornoch in Autumn

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll remember that last year I spent a wonderful weekend in Dornoch. It was one of my first trips after the end of Covid restrictions and one of my favourite trips I've ever taken with my husband. So when my family decided to organise a weekend away to Dornoch, I was so excited to head back to this wonderful little spot in the north coast.

When I tell you Dornoch showed up for autumn, I truly mean it. The trees in the centre of town were a kaleidoscope of autumnal colours, so after weeks of endless rain at home, it was so lovely to be able to enjoy spending time outdoors in the autumn.

Last time we were in Dornoch, there weren't actually that many shops open because of the lifting Covid restrictions. So it was just so wonderful to see all the lovely independent shops open this time we were in Dornoch. Three of our shopping highlights included:

  • Jail Dornoch, a converted jail that has been turned in to a lovely gift shop. I bought a lovely knitted cardigan with some birthday money I had.

  • The Dornoch Bookshop, a small but well stocked independent bookshop which also has a number of books about the local area.

  • Dornoch Stores, a hardware shop which also sells loads of lovely foodie bits.

After spending a few hours wandering about the streets, we decided it was time for a wee coffee. We headed to Milk and Honey, a little spot we missed last year but that I've seen lots of people sharing on social media ever since. I enjoyed one of their Honey Buzz drinks, a sweet, spiced coffee drink which was delicious on such a beautiful autumnal morning.

This is the second time in two years I've spent the weekend in Dornoch and I can honestly say it's one of my favourite places in the Highlands! It has so many of my favourite things: lovely little independent shops, great food spots, cute little streets to meander around and, to top it all off, a fabulous beach! It is such a wonderful little spot that I would definitely recommend checking out, and I actually think it was even more beautiful in autumn.
