Everything We Ate in Oban

If you are looking for a spot in Scotland to find incredible food and drink offerings, might I suggest Oban? We spent two days in this wonderful place and we were so surprised by all the incredible food we got to try. So here's our list of amazing food spots to eat in Oban.

Baab, Station Road, Oban

On our first night in Oban, we headed to Baab, a Mediterranean restuarant right in the heart of Oban. We love this kind of food, but living where we do in the Highlands, it can sometimes be difficult to find great tasting Mediterranean food. We ended up sharing their Baba Ganoush with pitta bread as a starter. For mains, I enjoyed the rose harissa mussels, whilst Finlay had their Lamb Kebab. A delicious choice for our first evening in Oban.

Hinba Coffee, 62 George Street

One of the highlights of the apartment we ended up staying in was its proximity to Hinba Coffee Shop. I've followed them for a while on Instagram and didn't even realise how close they were to our apartment when I booked. My favourite drink I had there was the Brazillian roast iced latte. Perfect for a summer's day!

The Green Shack, Oban

We stumbled upon this spot next to the Ferry Terminal in Oban, but it ended coming back here twice during our visit to Oban. This little spot was so busy the two days we visited that we ended up having to eat our delicious seafood huddled together under a canopy when it started to pour.

Finlay loved being able to see inside the kitchen watching everything being prepared. It was a bustling wee kitchen with the queue for ordering going out the door.

We tried the hot langoustines in garlic butter, the scallops in garlic butter and the mussels in white wine over the two visits we had to the Green Shack. They were all so fresh and delicious but our favourite was probably the mussels. For £5, you got a giant beautiful steaming portion of fresh mussels to enjoy right by the sea. You just can't beat it.

Oban Chocolate Company, 34 Corran Esplanade

Who doesnt love finding a chocolate shop when on holiday?! We loved visiting the magical Oban Chocolate shop whilst we were here and trying some of their delicious sweet treats. Our highlight was trying their delicious hot chocolate. I had their Rich Milk hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and it was ideal for a damp summer's day in Oban.

Etive Restaurant, 43 Stevenson Street

Since this trip was supposed to be for Finlay's birthday, we knew we had to try to make it extra special. When we asked our Airbnb host for recommendations, they suggested the tasting menu experience at Etive restaurant, so we decided to treat ourselves to the experience.

This six course tasting menu used local and seasonal ingredients to highlight just how good Scottish food can be. My favourite course was the roasted celeriac, toasted hazelnuts and chives from the vegetarian menu, whilst Finlay loved the Raspberry Souffle with Cream to finish our meal. All together, a dreamy evening.

Highland Fold Ice Cream, Barcaldine

For years, we've been talking about visiting Highland Fold Ice Cream if ever we managed to come down to this part of the world and I am so glad we finally made it. This spot is a real hidden gem in North Argyll area and a fantastic place to visit between Oban and Fort William. Using milk from their herd of Highland cows, the team here make deliciously smooth and seasonal ice cream flavours to suit all tastes. I chose to try blueberry and strawberry sorbet and these two flavours were perfect to enjoy on a summer's day.

We had the most incredible weekend in Oban and we truly believe this is one of the foodie highlights of Scotland for us.
