Everything we Ate on Orkney

As a foodie, I had such a great time discovering all the incredible food and drink options on Orkney. Everything we ate on Orkney was incredible and we had such a good time heading out and exploring all that Orkney had to offer. From wee tearooms and coffee shops to fancy restaurants, we loved everything we ate on Orkney, and I can't wait to share it all with you below.

Twenty One, Kirkwall

Our first night in Orkney we headed into Kirkwall for dinner at Twenty One. This restaurant serves delicious cocktails and small plates, making it an ideal spot for a casual dinner after our busy first day exploring. Our favourite thing we ate there was a delicious burrata salad with grilled peaches, hot honey and toasted pine nuts.

Polly Kettle, Burray

One of my favourite things about exploring a new place for the first time is getting the chance to go out and find new spots I'd never even heard of before. This happened on our first full day on Orkney, just after we visited the Italian Chapel on Lamb Holm, when we stumbled across Polly Kettle in Burray. Despite researching extensively before heading on our trip, this little cafe in Burray never came up in any blogposts I'd read, but I am so glad we found it.

Polly Kettle served lunch options and cake inspired by Egyptian and Middle Eastern flavours. I enjoyed a delicious chai latte with a piece of rose and vanilla cake. I love spices and anything that tastes like flowers, so it was really the perfect spot for us to have a little break in the middle of the day (particularly during a very rainy spell).

The Storehouse, Kirkwall

After a recommendation for some family members, we decided to have a fancy meal out at the Storehouse in Kirkwall. I'd actually read about this spot even before our family recommendation and I had such a lovely meal there. For our starter, we shared a portion of Orkney hand dived scallops, with orange, basil and hazelnut butter.

Archive Coffee, Kirkwall

We finished our time browsing the High Street in Kirkwall with coffee and a delicious raspberry ripple milkshake at a great coffee and brunch spot called Archive Coffee. We ended up enjoying our time here so much, we came back the next day for some brunch before catching our ferry back to the mainland. I enjoyed one of my favourite brunch options: shakshuka, spicy, tomatoey eggs with crusty bread for dunking in the sauce. Before we headed on our long journey back home, it was so nice to fill up on something delicious and nurticious.

Overall if you are a foodie, get yourself over to Orkney 😂
