Faith over Fear

Pladda from the Isle of Arran

"But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at His feet and, trembling with fear, told Him the whole truth. He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."

Mark 5:32-34

I really love this account from Mark's Gospel. It's been one that I've loved for years. It's an account of what it means to trust Jesus when all hope seems to have gone. Of faith over fear.

I was reflecting on what it means to have faith in today's world. Whenever I tell people I'm a Christian, people often assume I'm a bit mad for believing what I believe. When there are so many certain things in this world, why put your faith in a God you can't see?

This woman probably would have had similar reactions from those she was facing. She had been dealing with bleeding for 12 years. Though she'd gone to others for help, no one was able to solve the problem she faced. She had spent money trying to get help, and yet nothing had stopped her problem.

Yet she trusted Jesus.

She had a lot to fear when it came to facing Jesus. She could have let her fears take over. But instead of letting her fears take over, she put her faith in Jesus. Rather than letting her fears for the future take over, she put her faith in Jesus, the One who could heal her sin, her problems and her pain.

When the fears and worries of this world start to take over, I am learning to put my faith in Jesus. He is the One I can put my faith in, rather than letting fear take over.
