Festive Brunch at Cafe Cuil

Isn't it wonderful when you get to celebrate two of your favourite things, Christmas and brunch, at the same time? Despite the terrible weather this past weekend, we drove up from our house to one of our favourite new food spots on the Isle of Skye, Cafe Cuil, to try some of their festive brunch offerings. We visited Cafe Cuil earlier this year when their Spring menu was available and we had a really wonderful meal that day. So when we saw on Cafe Cuil's instagram that they would be open for a two week period in the run up to Christmas, we knew we had to go along for a wee visit ourselves.

Because I had already examined the menu thoroughly before we actually arrived at Cafe Cuil, I knew what I was going to have for my meal. However, I was very excited to see they had a special Christmas drink available on the menu. I love anything mulled at this time of year, so I was particularly excited to see that their special drink of the day was a mulled cider with Buckfast.

Despite being from Glasgow, I really wouldn't say I'm a fan of Buckfast. However, adding the mulled cider to the Buckfast made it absolutely delicious and a real Scottish Christmas treat.

For my main meal, I decided to have their roast turkey and cranberry quesedilla. This came with a roasted brussel sprout slaw and curried mayo. Finlay decided to have the bubble and squeak hash. We loved the oppurtunity to try the delicious festive food and try something a bit different at this time of year.

We knew we wanted to try something sweet after our main courses. In the cake counter that day, there was a delicious looking slice of carrot and cardamon cake calling our names. Finlay also decided to have a cup of their chai, becuase, if you can't have spiced foods at Christmastime, when can you?

Cafe Cuil is constantly surprising us with exciting new food and drink options inspired by the best ingredients and produce the Isle of Skye and Scotland can offer. My husband and I have always been passionate about the Scottish food and drink industry, and it's been so exciting to see how interesting and exciting the food and drink industry has become, especially in the Scottish Highlands. I am looking forward to see what exciting things happen in the food and drink industry in the Scottish Highlands in 2024!
