As the summer season creeps closer and closer, I wanted to take the place to recommend some of my favourite spots on the Isle of Skye to enjoy something to eat. This isn't the complete list, but I thought I'd share a few different options from across the island, ranging from lunch spots to fancy dinner spots. Hopefully that will include most budgets and covers somewhere for everyone.
For the Sweet Tooth, try The Coffee Bothy in Broadford
The Coffee Bothy has long been one of my favourite spots on the Isle of Skye since it opened a few years ago. We love their cosy and comforting space and their delicious homemade cakes.
We visited the Coffee Bothy last week and enjoyed an incredible Pink Panther cake. It was such a delicious sweet treat and I can't wait to return and see what other cakes they bake in the future. The Coffee Bothy are also fantastic for catering for different dietary needs, having gluten-free and vegan cakes on offer all the time.
For Brunch with a Hebridean Twist, try Cafe Cuil near Carbost
If brunch is your thing, I cannot recommend Cafe Cuil near Carbost enough. Opened in 2022 on the Isle of Skye, this spot is ideal if you're looking for somewhere selling incredible brunch options with local produce in mind. They recently reopened at the start of March for the year and they are selling some incredible options on their menu.
We visited Cafe Cuil at the end of March last year, so, if you wanted to read more about that experience, click this link. We also visited in December during their Festive Menu, which was a really fun way to celebrate the Christmas period.
For Delicious Pizza and Stunning Views, try Gasta in Portree
In the last few years, the Isle of Skye Candle Co have opened a new visitor centre on the outskirts of Portree and their new eatery, Gasta, has become one of our favourite spots to eat in the village. Gasta serves food all day, but one of our favourite things to enjoy there is their delicious wood fired pizzas. We love having the option to go out for a pizza whenever we go to Portree. It makes for such a fun and quick meal and we love it.
Gasta is also situated in the Isle of Skye Candle Visitor Centre, which is one of my favourite businesses to support on the Isle of Skye. So make sure you pop into their shop once you've eaten your pizza and pick up a lovely candle. My favourite scent is pomegranate and plum.
For a Small Plates Lunch in a Beautiful Setting, try Kinloch Lodge in South Skye
We visited Kinloch Lodge for the first time last year and it was such a wonderful experience. We enjoyed four dishes from their Tasting Plates menu, which is served everyday from 12pm to 2pm and it was such a fun and delicious way to try incredibly beautiful food. The Tasting Plates menu is advertised as "Little Plates of Deliciousness" and I couldn't agree with what that more.
For a Sustainably Sourced Meal cooked with Fire, try The Dunvegan in Northwest Skye
At the start of February, we enjoyed the fire tasting menu at The Dunvegan in Northwest Skye. It has so far been one of our favourite meals to enjoy on the island. The team at The Dunvegan use incredible local and sustainable produce to showcase the incredible food available from the Isle of Skye and surrounding areas.
Hopefully this list will include something for everyone. My biggest recommendation for finding places to eat on the Isle of Skye is, if there's somewhere you particularly want to visit, make sure you book in advance. During the summer months, Skye is said to triple in population, and a look of restaurants book up well in advance.
