Five Reasons why I love living in Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands

Loch Duich, Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands

When I first moved to Lochalsh almost 4 years ago, a lot of people in my life really had no idea where I was talking about. It's not a very big area and its not an area a lot of people know about.

But reflecting on my past 4 years living in Lochalsh, I've come to realise just how much I love living here and why it's an ideal location for me to live in based on all the things I love about the Scottish Highlands. So I thought I'd share a list with you of my top five reasons why I love living in this beautiful part of the Scottish Highlands.

Glenelg, Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands

Lochalsh has everything I love about the Scottish Highlands

For me, my favourite things about living in the Scottish Highlands are the beautiful country living and the incredible people who live here. We've been very blessed to have both of these things in our lives living in Lochlash.

I love the peace and quiet of living in the Highlands. I love the slower pace of life (for the majority of the year) and I love being able to step outside our home into the most beautiful Scottish landscape.

I've also had a real blessing of getting to know people who also live and work in Lochlash over recent years. Getting to know the incredible people who also call Lochalsh home has been such a highlight of moving here and I can't wait to get to know more people over the years.

There's mountains, lochs and the sea-everything I love!

As I've already said, I love the incredible countryside of the Scottish Highlands. Another reason I love Lochlash is it has all the elements of the Scottish Highlands that I love. There are incredible mountains throughout Lochalsh. There are lots of beautiful sea lochs and freshwater lochs. There are rivers dotted throughout the region. And there's also beaches and the sea.

Proximity to the Isle of Skye

One of my favourite reasons about living in Lochalsh is being able to do so many day trips to the Isle of Skye, but without the crazy busy summers you would have actually living on the island. For me, having the oppurtunity to explore the vast array of things to do on the Isle of Skye has been such a highlight of living in Lochalsh and I've been able to sahre a lot of those adventures here on this blog.

That being said, one thing that cannot be stated enough is how busy Skye can be, especially in the busy tourist summer season. I love that, during these months, we don't need to be amongst the busyness of Skye. However, if we have friends and family visiting in the summer, we can choose to spend time on the Isle of Skye and head back to the slightly quieter Lochalsh.

River Ness, Inverness, Scottish Highlands

Proximity to the rest of the Scottish Highlands

Another thing I love about living in Lochalsh is the oppurtunity to explore other parts of the Scottish Highlands. In an hour and a half, we can get from out home in Lochalsh to the capital of the Highlands, Inverness, or the outdoor capital of the UK, Fort William. In just over an hour, we can get to some of the wilder parts of the Scottish Highlands, such as Wester Ross.

Most of my blogposts over the past few years have been written about spots we've visited on day trips, and without that proximity to the rest of the Scottish Highlands, we would not be able to visit as much of the Scottish Highlands as wen have been able to.

Plockton, Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands

Proximity to the rest of Scotland

Another one of my favourite things about Lochalsh is being able to easily get to other parts of Scotland, particularly because my family live in Glasgow. From Lochalsh, we get get back to my parents house outside Glasgow in around 4 hours, meaning we can normally head straight after work and arrive in the evening.

We can also head down to other cities and areas within Scotland in a few short hours, making us still feel a part of the lives of our friends and family who live in other parts of the country, but still being able to enjoy our lives here in the Scottish Highlands.
