Hou Hou Mei, Inverness

Menu and Green Tea, Hou Hou Mei, Inverness, Scottish Highlands

One of the things I've loved most about moving to the Scottish Highlands s seeing the abundance of fantastic new businesses popping up throughout the region. I was chatting with my husband about it a while ago and we especially love seeing new businesses popping up in the Capital of the Scottish Highlands, Inverness. For many years, there were lots of lovely things to see in Inverness, but not always so many restaurants and cafes to enjoy on our trips through there.

For our anniversary, we decided to try one of Inverness' newest eateries, Hou Hou Mei. We've been hearing and seeing lots about it on social media, so we were very excited to try it. Since I wasn't driving, I decided to try one of their cocktails. I went for the Spiced Pineapple Punch, which had spiced rum, pineapple juice, pineapple, ginger beer and lemon. I loved the spicy, tropical flavours which really went with the spicy flavours of the food we tried. Finlay was driving so he had a mango chai iced tea, which he also loved. We also enjoyed some complimentary jasmine green tea with our dinner, which was a lovely touch to our evening.

We weren't feeling super hungry but we did want to sample lots of their lovely food, so we decided to try five of their small plates between us. We ended up having the sesame prawn toast, the sticky sesame cauliflower wings, the chicken satay skewers, salt and chili squid and the bbq beef bao buns. We absolutely loved everything we ordered, but our favourites were probably the cauliflower wings and the bao buns. We just loved trying something different and so amazing in the heart of the Highlands.

Although we were pretty full from our small plates, we decided we couldn't leave without trying a dessert. We chose to share the chai creme brulee. I love chai spice, particularly in the autumn, and creme brulee is one of my favourite desserts, so this really was a winner for me.

We really loved our dinner at Hou Hou Mei. There were a whole bunch of things we tried that we would love to have again, and there were a whole bunch of items from the main course menu I really want to try as well. If you want to find out more about Hou Hou Mei, you can visit their website here.
