When I recently shared my top 6 Scottish islands with my newsletter subscribers, I shared that one of my favourite Scottish islands was the wee island of Raasay. You may not have heard of Raasay, but its actually one of the closest islands to where I live. Located just off the Isle of Skye, its a perfect island to explore if you're visiting this part of the world.
I first visited the Isle of Raasay in 2018. I had never even had heard of the Isle of Raasay before our first visit, but it has made a real impression on me since. I have visited since 2019, so it had been almost 3 years since the last time I visited Raasay.
One of my favourite places to visit on the Isle of Raasay is Raasay Distillery. Over the years, we've been able to see the growth and expansion of this distillery and I love returnning to see all the things that've changed over the years there. We enjoyed a whisky tasting during our most recent visit, which was informative, fun and interactive. It was a great way to find out more about the distillery and the Isle of Raasay as well.
After our distillery tour, we enjoyed a delicious meal at the distillery itself. We enjoyed some Thai green curry mussels, and a confit duck bao bun. It was such a beautiful day when we visited that we were able to sit outside and enjoy our lunch there.
This last visit to Raasay was the first time we've taken the car over, so we decided to pay a visit to Calum's Road. I read a book about Calum and his road a few years ago, and I was very excited to see the road for myself.
If you're looking for a Scottish island to visit for the day, I think Raasay is the perfect choice. It is a very walkable, the distillery is a great place to visit for a wee dram, and the views over to the Isle of Skye are stunning!
