Looking Back on 2022

I'm sure you'll read many of these blogposts over the next week. Something about the end of a year leads a lot of us to reflect on all the things we've done over the past year. That's the same with me. So I thought I'd share some of my reflections on what the last year has looked like for me and some of the things I've been so thankful to experience over this past year.

Exploring Places I've Always Wanted to See

This year has been really special because I've been able to visit so many places I've wanted to see in the Scottish Highlands for a long time. In April, we managed to visit two spots on the Isle of Skye that I've wanted to explore for a long time. The first was when we climbed the Old Man of Storr (or at least partly climbed it because the wind was so strong) and the second was to visit the beautiful beach at Talisker Bay. Both of these spots were so amazing and I'm so glad I finally got to visit them for myself.

In the summer, we also managed to visit one of my new favourite spots in Wester Ross: Gairloch. Visiting Gairloch has been such a goal of mine for some long and I truly loved seeing this little village. We also visited Aviemore during one of our many trips down the A9. This is a part of the Scottish Highlands that I really haven't ever spend much time, so I am looking forward to revisiting again in the New Year.

Revisiting Some of my Favourite Spots

As well as exploring new places this year, 2022 gave us a chance to go back to some of my favourite spots in the Highlands. During the summer months, we got to spend some time in Cromarty, one of my favourite places I visited in 2021. We also got to go back to one of my other favourite spots I visited for the first time in 2021, Dornoch, and it was even more beautiful in the autumn months.

Did I Manage to Do Everything I Wanted this Year?

Near the start of the year, I shared a blogpost about all the things I wanted to go this year. The first thing I wanted to do this year was to "slow down on the road." I really feel like we've been able to explore some of the places we passed through on a regular basis, like Fort William, Inverness and Achnasheen. We also had the chance to explore a few more place in Wester Ross, although I definitely hope to visit other parts of Wester Ross next year. We also spent lots of time exploring some of the best foodie spots all across the Highlands, trying pizza, seafood, coffee and cake. It was a particularly delicious year for me!

Will 2023 be the year I climb a Munro?

One of the things I wanted to do in 2022 was climb a Munro, some of the highest mountains in Scotland. Did I manage to do this? No. But will I be adding this to my list for 2023 again? Yes.

Living where we do in Lochalsh, I am constantly surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountains in Scotland. And, in all honesty, I would love to see my beautiful home from the mountains I see outside my window each day. I also love to challenge myself, so what better challenge for the year ahead than challenging myself to see my home from a different point of view

Thank you for joining me this year as I explore the Highlands and share my faith. I really appreciate all the support and encouragement I've received through this year.
