As I reflected on the last six months of this blog this morning, I was amazed to realise that I haven't written a single blog post about the Isle of Skye yet! As someone who lives in in Lochalsh, the looming Cuillin mountains of the Isle of Skye are often in view. However, because of the busy summer season, we usually avoid Skye when it is busy with tourists and wait to explore in the quieter winter months.
Last week, we got dressed up nice and made our way to the north end of Skye to have a wonderful lunch at Edinbane Lodge. I had never been to this part of Skye before, so it was a particularly exciting day for me. My husband was actually given a voucher for lunch at Edinbane Lodge for his birthday in February 2020, so we were very thankful we finally got the chance to use this voucher 20 months later!
One of our favourite parts about this lunch was getting to see the amazing ways local produce was used on the menu. It's really no surprise to anyone who has visited that Skye has some amazing food and produce to offer, but having so much of it available on the menu was really exciting.
We opted for the four course tasting menu. The food was amazing and we loved the amazing service we had (including having each course come out on wonderful plates from Edinbane Pottery).
One of my favourite things about trying seasonal and local food in this way was getting to try amazing local seafood in new and exciting ways. We've never been super confident cooking fish and seafood, so it is always something we really enjoy eating out. We had an amazing monkfish course with orange and this delicious heather-smoked Skye clam dish, with lots of local shellfish and olives.
However, I think our favourite course was actually the dessert course-white chocolate, cookie crumb and raspberry sorbet! These flavours already work so well together, so it was such a delicious way to end a great meal.
If you are looking for a lovely, special meal on the Isle of Skye, I'd highly recommend checking out Edinbane Lodge. We had a wonderful afternoon, enjoying some of the flavours of home. I'm hoping that, as we head into the quieter winter months, I get some more opportunities to explore some more of what the beautiful Isle of Skye
