My Favourite Ice Cream Spots in the Scottish Highlands

Ice Cream from James' at the Putting Green, Nairn, Scottish Highlands

It's well and truly the middle of summer in the Scottish Highlands (although with the weather we've had recently doesn't feel like it).

This summer (and every summer) one of my favourite ways to enjoy the season is by enjoying an ice cream. So I thought I'd share some of my favourite spots across the Highlands and Islands to enjoy this wee taste of the summer months.

James' at the Putting Green, Nairn

I had to start off with one of my favourite spots in the Highlands! Whenever we take the trip through to Nairn, we always try to stop at this wee gem in Nairn. We've been visiting James' for years now, but I really believe they are only getting better and better with time.

The real magic of a spot like James' is the ever changing menu of delicious, and sometimes slightly outrageous, ice cream flavours. On our last visit to James' at the end of June, I decided to play it safe with a double scoop of lemon curd ice cream and cherry ripple ice cream. But other flavours on offer that day included more adventurous flavours such as strawberry and balsamic, kefir and passionfruit, and chilli chocolate.

James' at the Putting Green is also a perfect stop if you want to make a visit to Nairn Beach, one of my favourite beaches in the Scottish Highlands. So why not make a visit to this fantastic wee spot on your next visit to sunny Nairn.

Miele's gelato, Aviemore

Miele's Gelato, Various Shops

Miele's is a real staple of sweet treats throughout the Scottish Highlands. Over the years, we've visited a couple of times and always had something wonderfully decadent and delicious. Recently on a trip to Inverness, we enjoyed a delicious scoop of Forrero Roche gelato, combining one of my favourite sweet treats with fresh made gelato.

Miele's has a number of different locations throughout the Highlands, including a shop in the heart of Inverness, in Aviemore, and various locations around Loch Ness. Check their website to see if there's a location near you. You won't regret it.

Highland Fold Ice Cream, Barcaldine, near Oban, Scottish Highlands

Highland Fold, Barcaldine (near Oban)

Another absolute gem that I discovered on our visit to Oban last summer. This croft ice cream cream shop (based between Fort William and Oban) uses milk from their own herd of Highland cows to make delicious creamy ice cream. Last year when we visited, I enjoyed some homemade blueberry ice cream and strawberry sorbet-two flavours perfect for a summer's day! Highland Fold is definetely a spot to check out in North Argyll.

Some homemade ice cream is a perfect way to enjoy summer in the Scottish Highlands. I hope you are inspired to visit somewhere new to enjoy this summer treat!
