My New To-Do List

"Therefore do not be anxious, saying,'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seeks after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Matthew 6:31-34

How do you stay on top of all that you need to do in a day?

For me, one of the best ways to stay on top of all the tasks I have to do in a day is making a to-do list. I love sitting at the start of each day and thinking of all the things I need to do. For me, it is such a great way to feel organised with everything I need to do in a day.

However, when I get to the end of my day I often encounter a big problem. Something will have come up during the day and derailed my day, meaning I don't manage to complete everything I planned to do on my list. When this happens, I end the day feeling like a failure or just down because I still have such a long to-do list.

A few weeks ago, we watched this sermon at our church evening service. One of the things mentioned in the service was about how we should approach to-do lists when we are trusting God through each day. The speaker suggested when you write out your to-do list at the start of each day, you should then pray it over and place it all into the hands of God.

Changing the way I think about what I need to do each day and being able to place it into the hands of God has really helped to shift my mindset of my daily to-do list. Rather than relying on myself to fulfill a long list of tasks, I can trust in God to be able to bring about what He wants me to complete in a day. Sometimes this will mean I get more done than I expected. Sometimes I will get much less done. And sometimes He will show me exactly what I need to do, which is the complete opposite from what I expected.

Today marks the start of the final year of a course I've been doing for the last two years. I'm really enjoying it and I am so thankful I've been able to do it whilst living so far away from the big cities in Scotland. Sometimes I get overwhelmed I with all the tasks I have to do during my day. Being able to create lists of things I need to do has been so helpful for me. And knowing that everything I have to do is in the hand of my Creator God helps me to know even more than I don't need to worry, but simply need to trust His plans for each day of my life.
