There's some places in Scottish Highlands that I would probably only visit a couple of times. And then there are some places in the Scottish Highlands that I love to visit again and again, finding different spots to explore every time you go and spotting little things that make you smile.
Plockton is one of those places for me. I first visited Plockton seven years ago during one of my first trips to the Scottish Highlands. My husband, who went to high school here, wanted to show me around one of his favourite villages locally. Since then, we have visited Plockton with almost every one who has come up to visit us in the Scottish Highlands.
We went on Saturday for a winter wander around Plockton. But, first of all, we had to grab some delicious lunch at the Croft Cafe in nearby Duirinish. I've spoken about this place before, but it really is one of my favourite spots to grab a delicious lunch near the Plockton area. I love that this former croft outbuilding has been shown some love and turned into cosy little lunch and coffee spot with delicious homemade food. There's an added bonus of some Highland cows just outside, which is so fun to see.
For me, the highlight of Plockton is just wandering about. Plockton is full of cute little harbour cottages and wee nooks and crannies to explore. Because Plockton has its own microclimate, there are always flowers and plants in blown which just adds to the beauty of the village. There are some many boats sitting in the harbour. You can hear seabirds and gulls calling overheard.
Over the last few years we've discovered a path which leads you above the main street of Plockton and gives you dramatic views over Loch Carron and Loch Kishorn. Seeing all the different places nearby across the lochs is one of my favourite things about the little peninsulas of the west coast. It just makes me want to go out and explore even more of the Scottish Highlands.
If you are ever visiting this area, I'd highly recommend spending a little bit of time wandering about Plockton. It's a truly beautiful little spot, ideal for exploring and letting your imagination run wild. No wonder it's called the Jewel of the Highlands.
