It feels like the summer weather has finally arrived in the Scottish Highlands and with that comes lots of adventures in and around my home in the Scottish Highlands. This past weekend, one of my best friends came up to visit, so we decided to go on a lovely coastal walk on the Sleat Peninsula on the Isle of Skye.
If you've followed along on my blog for a while, you'll know how much I love the Sleat Peninsula. It's a lusicous, green part of the island that has beautiful coastal views over to the Small Isles and to the Knoydart Peninsula on the mainland. It is often a part of the island that's a little quieter than other areas in the north of the island, so to beat the summer crowds, we headed south.
I've been wanting to do the Point of Sleat walk to the southernmost corner of the Isle of Skye for a wee while, but I knew I wanted to wait until the perfect day to enjoy this walk for the first time. Even though we left the house expecting drizzles and showers, we ended up enjoying the walk in full sunshine.
Somewhere along the walk, we ended up taking a wrong turn so we didn't actually end up at the Point of Sleat Lighthouse. We did find a beautiful harbour with a bench to enjoy our snacks and enjoy the sea views.
All in all, the walk took us about two and a half hours, with us enjoying some breaks along the way and having to walk along the road with our 13 year old Collie Bru. The walk wasn't as easy as I was expecting, with a couple of steep ups and downs along the farm track. But the views over to the Small Isles and of the beautiful coastline surrounding it.
After our walk, we enjoyed a delicious lunch of a black pudding and cheese toastie at Cafe 1925 in Ardvasar. It's a little spot that I've wanted to visit for a long time, so I'm glad we were able to spot on this visit to the Sleat Peninsula.
