The Duirinish/Drumbuie Loop

When you have an unexpected, free Saturday, what do you with it? We were recently faced with this dilemma when we realised on a Saturday morning that we didn't actually have anything else we needed to do and we had no other plans. Where do you turn for inspiration at these times?

In times when we are really stuck for inspiration (like last Saturday), we like to go to some of our favourite books for help. We used this little book as our inspiration for this walk. It was written by the same people who created the Walk Highlands website, so the information about the accessibility and details of the walk are super clear and helpful. We decided that, since it was such beautiful weather and we wanted to grab some lunch before starting our walk, that we would do the walk entitled "Drumbuie Coast".

Before starting out on our walk, we decided to grab a quick lunch at one of our favourite local spots-The Croft Cafe at Duirinish. They serve really fresh and yummy lunch options and cakes and coffee. I enjoyed a chicken burger, whilst my husband enjoyed a hearty bowl of Cullen Skink. If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy a lovely lunch between Kyle of Lochalsh and Plockton, I'd really recommend checking out this place!

This gentle coastal walk took us about an hour and a half. It started and finished at Duirinish train station (one of the stops on the world famous Kyle Line) so it is super handy to get to, whether you're coming in a car or by public transport. You can park right next to the station and get started on the walk straight away.

The views on this walk were truly breathtaking. The walk starts by walking over the Kyle Line Railway track and then heading down to the shore. One thing which we love about this wee walk is the surprise we discovered at the beach. During lockdown, a local spent time adding stones and shells from the beach to create this amazing rock. We love showing people we bring here this amazing rock. It is just so unexpected!

For the views over to Skye and Loch Carron, it was definitely worth while! On a Saturday afternoon in the middle of August, we also only met a local crofter and his collie. Whilst most people head to the really busy tourist spots in the summer, we were very glad to enjoy an afternoon of peace in this little part of Scotland.

If you were wanting to check out this walk for yourself, I'd recommend reading up on the walk on the Walk Highlands website.

Where do you go for inspiration when you have a day off?
