If there's one thing I love about living in the Scottish Highlands, it's the abundance of incredible fish and seafood options available throughout the area. Living near the sea and enjoying fresh fish and seafood is such a special thing, so I thought I'd share some of my favourite takeaway fish and seafood spots throughout the Scottish Highlands.
The Harbour Fish and Chips Shop, Portree Harbour
Over the last year or so, I've loved spending more time exploring and appreciating the biggest village on the Isle of Skye, Portree. I love wandering around the lovely shops and I love spending time watching the boats and seeing the seagulls from Portree Harbour.
Recently we headed down to the harbour in Portree to enjoy some fresh fish and chips from the Harbour Fish and Chips Shop. Fish and chips cost £10.50 and we managed to share 2 meals between 3 of us. There's nothing that beats enjoying fish and chips by the sea, and this spot is especially wonderful.
Fisherman's Kitchen, Kyle of Lochalsh
One of my favourite local spots in Lochalsh, this takeaway hut serves as a fishmonger (serving delicous locally caught fish and seafood) and a small takeaway spot.
My favourite thing to get from Fisherman's Kitchen is their award winning Cullen Skink. This creamy smoked haddock soup is such a comforting treat on a cold day (which is most of the year in the West Highlands).
Another thing I love to eat from Fisherman's Kitchen is their mixed seafood salad. This delcious salad is perfect for the summer months, with a mix of delicous prawns, hot and cold smoked salmon and salad leaves.
The Green Shack, Oban
One of my favourite discoveries during our weekend away to Oban last year, we enjoyed this spot so much we ended up visiting it twice over the course of our weekend!
For me, the joy of this spot is the simplicity of it. There's really nothing that beats fresh mussels, served hot with garlic and white wine! I'm a simple gal at heart.
The weekend we visited last summer, it was pretty wet, but that didn't stop the crowds from coming along for some fresh seafood. Another option we loved from the Green Shack was their fresh prawns with sweet chilli sauce. Although it was a wee bit fiddly trying to get to the meat on a paper plate during the rain, it was definitely worth it in the end.
There are plenty of other stops to enjoy fish and seafood around the Scottish Highlands, but these are some of my personal highlights. Hope this wee list inspires you to visit somewhere really special on your next trip to the Scottish Highlands.
