Top Places I want to Visit in the Highlands this year

Spring has sprung in the Scottish Highlands! We have daffodils blooming all over the place and the sun has finally returned to our little cottage garden. I'm so excited for longer days and warmer weather, and with that comes more opportunities to explore the Scottish Highlands. I shared a post in Spring last year with some of my goals for 2021.

Slow Down on the Road

Driving back home from Glasgow means most of my 4 hour journey home from the Central Belt is on the A82. This road snakes around Loch Lomond, through little Highland villages and even goes through the spectacular Glencoe. I'm hoping that this year, I can explore some more sights along the main roads I regularly travel, such as the Glencoe Visitor Centre and some more places in Fort William.

Explore Wester Ross

Even though I've lived in the Highlands for 18 months now, there are still so many parts of the Highlands that I've never visited. One such area is the northern parts of Wester Ross. I've already spend some time exploring Applecross and Lochcarron, but I have never been to some other parts of this region such as Gairloch, Torridon and Ullapool. One thing I know for sure about this region is there is an abundance of beautiful beaches and food venues to try, so I'm excited for the opportunity to experience something new.

Try some new foodie experiences

Last year, I had the real privilege of visiting a number of really amazing restaurants. One thing I didn't get the chance to explore as much was some of the more interesting street food stops around the Highlands. I'm really hoping that this year I can try some more fresh flavours of the Scottish Highlands.

Will 2022 be the year I climb a Munro?

Last year, I said I wanted 2021 to be the year I climbed a Munro. With so many of Scotland's tallest and most spectacular mountains so close to home, I was hoping for the opportunity to see my new home from a different angle. However, if one thing or another, we never actually got around to climbing a Munro last year. Will 2022 be the year? We shall see.

Let me know your recommendations for these areas and be sure to be on lookout for future posts featuring my adventures this year in the Scottish Highlands.
