Trusting the Commander of Wind and Waves

"The disciples went and woke Him, saying, 'Master, Master, we're going to drown!'

He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 'Where is your faith?' He asked His disciples.

In fear and amazement they asked one another, 'Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him."

Luke 8:24-25

The other day, we went out on the RIB boat to the Small Isles. We had the most wonderful time, but I would be lying if I didn't say that at times it was a bit choppy. It had been quite stormy and windy the day before, and, although from the shoreline it seemed calm, once you got out on the water, you realised it was not.

This reminded me of these verses from Luke 8. Jesus and His disciples go out onto a boat in the calm, but then a storm comes and the disciples think they are going to die. Rather than trusting that God will bring them through the storm, the disciples are scared and wake Jesus up.

That's when the miracle happens. Jesus speaks and the storm subsides. All is calm again. And the disciples are scared and amazed because they realise that this man on their boat has the power to control the wind and waves.

Despite the choppy waters the other day, I was able to trust the One who commands the wind and waves. He is the only One who can bring true calm in the midst of the storm. He is the commander of the wind and waves.
