Visiting Coral Beach, Isle of Skye

Claigan Corla Beach, Isle of Skye

One of my favourite discoveries I found after moving to the Scottish Highlands is the abundance of beautiful beaches dotted throughout the region. It's been a joy to discover beautiful beaches all over the Scottish Highlands and I've ended up visiting loads of them.

I even shared a blogpost last year about some of my favourite beaches in the Highlands!

Coral Beach in the Winters Sun, Isle of Skye

Last November, during a weekend staying in Portree on the Isle of Skye, we decided to make the most of the beautiful weather and head out to Claigan Coral Beach near Dunvegan for a wintery beach walk.

There's something magical about walking along a beautiful beach in the winter's sun. Unlike in the summer months on the Isle of Skye, winter on the island is much quieter and probably my favourite time of year to explore the island. During winter on Skye, you can be really blessed by having beautiful, sunny days with hardly any wind. This was the weather conditions the day we decided to head to the Coral Beach-perfect for wrapping up warm with a big scarf and a pair of sunglasses.

Fossilised Algae, Coral Beach, Isle of Skye

The beach itself is made up of millions of fossilised, sun-bleached pieces of algae, giving it the effect of being tiny white pieces of coral. This means, when you're looking down at Coral Beach as you arrive, you are dazzled by the most beautiful white beach.

If you want to explore a beautiful beach on the Isle of Skye, I couldn't recommend visiting Claigan Coral Beach enough. We had a really wonderful time enjoying a picnic lunch and a winters walk on this beautiful beach. Although the road down to the carpark was pretty windy and I imagine could be pretty treacherous in bad weather conditions, the walk down to the beach was very accessible. We followed the recommended route from one of our favourite books on short walks on the Isle of Skye and the route was very easy to follow and the walk was very doable (especially considering our group included two dogs and a very young baby).

What other walks would you recommend I try out on the Isle of Skye?
