Walking with the Lord

What is your favourite thing to do with the most important people in your life?

This is a question I've been reflecting on a lot recently. One of my favourite things to do with the important people in my life is going for walks. Spending time outdoors in nature, without any other distractions, is the perfect time for deep and meaningful conversations to flow. In lockdown, when we were unable to do almost all of the normal things we would normally do with the important people in our lives, we were able to wrap up warm and go for walks with our friends and families. Going for walks and talking is one of best ways to really get to know people.

Now here's the thing: if I am so willing to give up an hour or so of my time for the important people in my life in this way, why wouldn't I do a similar thing in my relationship with God?

If I'm being honest with you, I have always found praying hard. I get distracted easily and start daydreaming rather than focussing on actually talking to God. But I go for a decent length walk almost every day, so why not use that time to pray to God rather than listening to another podcast.

Last week, I went for my first proper "walk with God" for a long time. It was difficult, I was still getting distracted. But I was able to spend some time pouring out my heart to God about the big things and little things that are going on in my life right now. It's obviously something that I will keep growing in, but, like all relationships, the more time we spend with something, the more easily we are able to spend time with them.
